Mother & Child Project

The vision of the South Gonder Mother and Child Project, in a remote and poverty stricken area of Ethiopia, is to come alongside unsupported young women and enable them to support their families and send their children to school.

We provide:

  • Income Generation training and support with small business
  • Essential health provision for families until income
generation begins
  • Early learning, parenting skills and social support
  • Pre-School education for 3-6 year olds
  • Training in healthcare and parenting skills for local
practitioners and officials so that sustainable support can continue in the community

A team of 8 Ethiopian staff  works in the heart of South Gonder with the families identified by the community as the very neediest. Public Health professional Moira McLure from the UK works as a Volunteer Advisor to the team.

We are hoping that some UK families will be able to ‘sponsor’ a South Gonder family for a year, by giving £20 a month. But whatever the amount you are able to give, it will be spent on the direct costs of support. We will keep you up to date with news of our young families’ progress, and developments as the project grows.

With your help and interest, we are breaking the cycle of poverty and seeing hope and confidence on the faces of mothers and children for the first time.
